Have you been to our careers website lately?

Our careers website has been revamped (by our in-house Marketing Design Studio) and is a great place to explore what it's like to work at Hallmark. There are videos, answers to the most asked questions, fun stuff about our Hallmark culture, info on Kansas City, etc. Search jobs, find out about internships, or just wander through it and be entertained.

Hallmark Internships make Top 10 List

Our internship program was recognized by Vault.com as one of the top 10 "most unusual" internship programs.

Hmmm... "most unusual" is a compliment, right?

YES! Keep in mind the diversity of internships we offer.... from engineering to design.

The criteria used to select which companies made the Vault.com's Top 10 Internships list was:

Pay and perks
Because so many internships are unpaid, compensation definitely makes a difference. That doesn’t just mean cash, though: positions that offer interns housing, transportation and access to exclusive events are a huge plus as well.

On the job
The more engaging hands-on work and mentorship opportunities a program offers, the better. So when picking the Top 10 candidates, we choose positions that will enable interns to take their experience out into the postgraduate world by giving them a taste of full-time experience as well as networking opportunities.

Looking forward
Internships are meant to prepare students and recent grads for the future, whether by allowing them to try out different industries or narrow their focus to one. Job placement—the offer rate to interns for full-time jobs—was a factor. Also important: what we call “resume radiance,” a line on the resume that will impress future employers. A big name on your resume can propel you forward in any industry.

So to make the "Most Unusual" list the Vault.com looked at what internships offered unique experiences to their participants that couldn't be found anywhere else, while still maintaining the quality of pay, perks, on-the-job experience and job placement, etc. that they expect from all of their top 10 internships.

YAY! We're unusual -- and not in that creepy neighbor sort of way!

And I guess sometimes our interns could be considered "unusual..."

Our Interns are the Best!

I just wanted to post a shout-out to all of our Creative Summer Interns here at Hallmark! Hailing from exotic locations throughout the US of A, they represent many areas of expertise, like Graphic Design, Animation, Industrial Design, Writing, and Architecture. It has been a fab summer so far, and my team is proud to be a part of the internship program, especially since we get to spend so much time with these stellar young people!

ISU College of Design Career Day

Hey from San Jose, CA! I'm on the road this week in sunny, warm California at San Jose State University. It's much warmer here (72 today!) than Iowa was last week (15!), but I wanted to give a shout out to all of the ISU students and faculty who stopped by to chat with Hallmark and/or came to our presentation at the College of Design Career Day last week. Here are a few photos from the event of our (Hallmark)RED booth. Thanks for coming to see what we're up to at Hallmark, and remember: the Hallmark Creative Summer Internship deadline is only 14 days away (March 17th)!

Left side of the booth. See the black and white books in the front of the photo? Those were all the goods we handed out! White books: Award-winning (A4, Kansas City AIGA Awards Show 2007), stitched booklet with an embossed cover chock full of info on Hallmark Creative and Kansas City (plus some of the top-selling cards from our RED line. Black books: Award-winning (Communication Arts annual, 2006) spiral bound book focused on typography and various paper stocks, all about Hallmark's Design Studios.

Right side of the booth, "See How Far a Card Can Go" posters designed by our Environmental Graphic Design Studio for Hallmark Gold Crown front-of-store (Jan-Feb 08). Similar signage was on a billboard in Times Square, NYC in December 07 and January 08!

Gift Presentation product (bags, tissue, boxes, gift wrap, hang tags) and a few cards and stationery (boxed cards)

Some of the RED cards and some print collateral from the Marketing Design Studio, our internal ad agency.

Me and Meg B., a Hallmark Designer (check out her blog, so fun! link under "Hallmarkers Who Blog" on the right)
